Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said that the conflict in Ukraine will not turn into a global theater of war, because “the Russians are too weak for that, they cannot even defeat Ukraine, so they are not capable of seriously attacking NATO.”
Viktor Orban said this in an interview with the French television channel LCI.
The Hungarian Prime Minister said that Ukraine needs a ceasefire first, and then peace.
“Ukraine has every right to self-defense. Moreover, it is doing so heroically. Neither Europeans nor Ukrainians will be able to reach an agreement with the Russians, Ukrainians because they will lose this war, and Europeans because they are too involved to do so. What is really needed is an agreement between the Russians and the Americans,” Orban said.
According to him, Ukraine is not suitable for membership in NATO or the European Union, and neither Hungary nor the EU would benefit from a direct clash with Russia.
The prime minister noted that Hungarians understand the history of Ukraine better than the French, and added that “you don’t have to love the Russians, but you have to negotiate with them.”
Orban also said that Russians understand only the language of force, so Europe also needs to be strong. It also became known that Orban would be happy to see Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest.
“If he wants to come to Hungary, we will welcome him with respect,” he said.
Orban also said that “President Trump is not the messiah.” According to the Hungarian prime minister, it is possible to reach an agreement with Trump on tariffs, but it will be difficult, because Trump is a “tough” man.
