In the area of responsibility of the 57th separate motorized infantry brigade in the Vovchansk direction, a Kenyan citizen was captured who, according to him, found himself in the ranks of the Russian army after arriving in the Russian Federation.

This was reported by the brigade’s press service.

According to the prisoner, he and three other Kenyans were allegedly invited by a sports agent on a tourist trip to St. Petersburg, which was financed by the Russian Federation. At the end of the trip, the escort offered them to stay in Russia with employment; after signing documents in Russian, the man, as he claims, found himself in the Russian armed forces.

His arrival at the military camp came as a shock: according to the prisoner, he was forced to undergo training, during which he was taught basic weapon handling skills; the instructors did not know English and communicated with him using gestures. When he tried to refuse service, he was threatened with reprisals.

According to the brigade, during his first combat mission in northern Kharkiv Oblast, the Kenyan fled — he wandered through the forests near Vovchansk for two days in search of Ukrainian soldiers and eventually surrendered. He asked not to be sent to Russia because, according to him, he would face death there.
