Traffic complications are possible at the Ukrainian-Polish border, specifically at the Krakivets checkpoint. The reason is the introduction of a new entry and exit system at the EES external borders.
This was reported by the State Border Service.
Currently, 50 cars are waiting to leave Ukraine at the Krakivets checkpoint.
The EES electronic system records data on the crossing of the external borders of the Schengen area without the need for stamps in passports. It was introduced to strengthen security, accurately record the length of stay of foreigners in European countries, and combat illegal migration.
The first entry requires registration, which consists of:
- taking a photo of the face;
- taking four fingerprints.
Subsequent border crossings will be faster, as the data will be automatically checked against the database. The system will record the date, time, and place of entry and exit.
As a reminder, on October 12, the European Union began implementing a new biometric border control system. The phased launch is taking place at the borders with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. The EES system will record the movements of third-country nationals, including Ukrainians, who cross the external borders of the Schengen area for a short stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
