Ukraine’s “long-range sanctions”: Zelenskyy comments on attack targeting the Moscow region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the attack targeting the Moscow region, saying Ukraine’s “long-range sanctions” were a response to Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities and communities. According to him, Ukrainian drones traveled more than 500 kilometers despite the heavy concentration of Russian air defenses.

Zelenskyy made the statement in his address.

“Our responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war and strikes against our cities and communities are absolutely justified. This time, Ukrainian long-range sanctions reached the Moscow region,” the president said.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is “clearly telling Russians” that their state must end the war.

The president also said that Ukrainian drone and missile manufacturers continue their work and thanked the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and all Ukrainian Defense Forces “for their precision.”

“The distance from Ukraine’s state border is more than 500 kilometers. The concentration of Russian air defense systems in the Moscow region is the highest. But we overcome it,” Zelenskyy stressed.

The president’s statement came after a large-scale drone attack on Moscow and the surrounding region overnight on May 17. According to Russian authorities and the ASTRA Telegram channel, the attack caused fires, damaged residential buildings and infrastructure facilities, and led to massive flight delays at airports.
