On the night of September 26, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in Russia’s Rostov region. A fire was reported in the foundry, while equipment in five production buildings was damaged.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the SBU, its Alpha Special Operations Center, together with the Ukrainian Navy, attacked the plant with Ukrainian Neptune cruise missiles, as well as Ruta, Palyanytsia and Bars jet-powered missile drones.
Preliminary reports indicate damage to optical and foundry production facilities, an assembly section, an electroplating workshop and a printed circuit board production shop.
The Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant is part of Russia’s Tactical Missiles Corporation and operates in support of the Russian armed forces.
The plant specializes in the production of optical-mechanical and optoelectronic equipment, as well as electronic systems for artillery, missile and anti-tank weapons.
It also produces radar and infrared homing heads for guided missiles, thermal imaging devices and electronic systems for precision artillery.
