What Is Known About the Samara Oil Facility
The Samara oil pumping and dispatch station is a major hub for receiving, storing, and blending crude oil.
Crude oil is transported to the facility through major pipelines from Tatarstan, Western Siberia, and other oil-producing regions of Russia.
At the station, crude oil with different sulfur contents is blended to produce Urals, one of Russia’s main export crude oil grades supplied to international markets.
According to Ukraine’s General Staff, the facility is also involved in supplying the Russian armed forces.
Ukraine’s military command emphasized that strikes on such facilities are intended to reduce Russia’s military and economic capabilities.
The General Staff stated that these operations are carried out under Ukraine’s right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
