Ukrainian company HIMERA and Denmark’s GomSpace have placed OBRIA NANO into orbit, the first test satellite for a future independent Ukrainian communications network. The satellite was launched on October 1, 2026, as part of SpaceX’s Transporter-18 mission and is already operational.

The announcement was made by HIMERA.

The launch took place under the OBRIA initiative, which aims to establish Ukraine’s own satellite communications network.

The project’s goal is to diversify Ukraine’s communications channels and reduce its strategic dependence on external infrastructure.

The next major step will be to localise the production of satellites and ground terminals in Ukraine.

According to HIMERA, this will help develop domestic satellite communications technologies and gradually expand Ukraine’s manufacturing capabilities.
