On the night of August 12, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out an operation to strike a Russian naval base in Novorossiysk — the last main stronghold of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. Hits on air defense positions, piers and seaport infrastructure were confirmed.
This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The naval base in Novorossiysk is located more than 300 kilometers from the front line.
During the operation, the Defense Forces used Palyanytsia jet-powered drones, Neptune missiles and unmanned maritime systems.
“Our Palyanytsia jet-powered drones, Neptune missiles and unmanned maritime systems accurately struck the designated targets. Hits on air defense positions, piers and seaport infrastructure have been confirmed,” Zelenskyy said.
The president thanked the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine and Ukrainian intelligence services for the results of the operation.
“The occupation fleet and all the infrastructure that supports it will not be safe as long as Russian aggression continues,” he added.
Zelenskyy also said that the war must be stopped and that all “reasonable proposals for diplomacy” are on the table.
