On November 20, Ukraine will celebrate Children’s Day on a new date for the first time, in accordance with the presidential decree of May 30, 2025, which moved the celebration from June 1 to November 20.

According to UNICEF data released in February 2025, more than 2,500 children in Ukraine have been killed or injured since the start of the full-scale invasion. This estimate includes only documented and confirmed cases.

The organization also reports a threefold increase in the number of children killed or injured between March 1 and May 31, 2025, compared to the previous three-month period. UNICEF stresses that the actual number of victims may be higher due to limited access to temporarily occupied territories.

Most of the child victims are in territories controlled by Ukraine, where active hostilities are taking place and rocket and drone strikes are systematically recorded.

On this day, Ukrzaliznytsia reminded that it had evacuated more than 1,000,000 children since the start of the full-scale invasion. The company notes that it transported families from shelling and dangerous regions to give children a chance at childhood.
