Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina reached the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto after defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets. The Ukrainian will face Iga Swiatek for a place in the final.

This was reported by “Big Tennis of Ukraine”.

Svitolina lost the first set 3:6, but did not concede a single game to her opponent in the second — 6:0. The Ukrainian won the deciding set 6:3.

The match lasted just over an hour and a half. During that time, Svitolina lost her serve three times but made six breaks.

This was Svitolina’s fifth match against Alexandrova and their first since 2021. The Ukrainian claimed her fourth victory in their head-to-head meetings.

Svitolina reached the semifinals of a WTA 1000 tournament for the 16th time in her career and will play at this stage in Canada for the third time. In 2017, she won the tournament in Toronto, and in 2018 she reached the semifinals in Montreal.

This victory was Svitolina’s 10th consecutive win in matches at WTA 1000 tournaments, starting with Rome, where she became champion.

In the semifinal on August 12, Svitolina will face Iga Swiatek, who defeated Diana Shnaider 6:2, 6:1 in her quarterfinal.

In their head-to-head record, Svitolina trails Swiatek 3:4, but this season she has won both of their matches — in Indian Wells and Rome.
