Suspect in Farion’s murder has his crime classification changed

Vyacheslav Zinchenko, a suspect in the case of the murder of public activist Iryna Farion, has had his crime classification changed – he is now charged with premeditated murder.

According to the new qualification, Zinchenko faces life imprisonment. The indictment has already been submitted to the court, the National Police reports.

According to the investigation, on July 19, 2024, Zinchenko ambushed Iryna Farion near her house on Masaryk Street in Lviv. He shot her in the head and fled the scene. The wounded woman was taken to the hospital, where she died.

Investigators found that the suspect had been a member of online communities promoting violence, national and religious hatred since 2022. In 2024, he joined another group affiliated with a Russian neo-Nazi organization.

The motive for the crime was a personal dislike of Iryna Farion because of her active position in protecting the Ukrainian language and culture. Zinchenko believed that her activities “split national unity”.
