The cause of the incident has not yet been reported.

The Su-57 is a Russian fifth-generation multirole fighter developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It is designed to engage aerial, ground and maritime targets and to operate in environments protected by air defense systems. The prototype made its first flight in 2010.

The aircraft was developed using technologies intended to reduce its radar signature. The Su-57 is considered Russia’s most advanced serially produced combat aircraft, although production remains limited. Serial production began in 2022.

This is not the first known Su-57 crash. In December 2019, an aircraft of this type crashed during a test flight in Russia’s Khabarovsk region. The pilot also managed to eject on that occasion.
