Since the beginning of the day on 8 May, 117 combat clashes have been recorded on the front line — the enemy continues to attack the positions of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in its evening report as of 16:00.

The hottest spot remains in the Pokrovsk direction, where the Russian army has made 41 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders near the settlements of Oleksandropil, Yelyzavetivka, Myrolyubivka, Zvirove, Preobrazhenka, Andriivka and others. The defence forces repelled 32 assaults, with nine battles still ongoing.

In the Novopavlivka direction, 19 attacks took place near Rozliv, Novopol, Pryvilne and Burlatskyi — three clashes are ongoing.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked 17 times near Tor, Kolodyaziv and Zelenaya Dolyna. Two battles are ongoing.

        The situation in other directions:

        • In the Kursk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled seven Russian attacks.
        • In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two attacks by the occupiers, and another battle is still ongoing.
        • In the Kupiansk direction, the Russians carried out three assaults near Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and Nova Kruhlykivka. Fighting is ongoing.
        • Ukrainian soldiers stopped two assaults by the occupiers in the Siverskyi direction near Bilohorivka and Fedorivka.
        • In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled four attempts by the occupiers to advance in the areas of Chasiv Yar and Kurdyumivka.
        • In the Toretsk direction, the enemy attacked five times in the areas of Krymske and Toretsk.
        • In the Orikhiv direction, defenders repelled three enemy assaults in the areas of Stepove and Shcherbakiv.

At the end of April, Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin announced a ‘ceasefire’ from 8 to 11 May and called on Ukraine to ‘join in.’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky officially rejected the proposal for a “ceasefire” of only three days and instead insisted on a ceasefire for at least a month.
