Russian radio relays may be operating in Kyiv, providing a temporary control channel for Shahed drones to adjust strikes. According to Serhii Beskrestnov, adviser to the President of Ukraine on defense technologies, there may be between one and three such relays.
Beskrestnov reported this himself.
According to him, these are relays belonging to the enemy’s mesh network, which are switched on for short periods and allow the flight of attack drones to be adjusted immediately before a strike.
Beskrestnov stressed that such relays are difficult to detect, but they need to be found. In his view, as long as they remain operational, attempts to shield the city with electronic warfare systems will not be sufficiently effective.
As an argument, he cited the strike on the SBU building, saying that at the time of the attack there were no other Shahed drones in the sky that could have served as relays.
The presidential adviser also said he had analyzed strikes on Kyiv’s bridges and the possibility of establishing long-range mesh channels from Russian territory.
According to him, without stable online control right up to the moment of impact, it is practically impossible to hit a bridge support or its cables with precision.
Beskrestnov also noted that Russian channels are actively circulating photos of air defense systems deployed on Kyiv’s bridges. In his view, it is effectively impossible to conceal the placement of, for example, a Gepard anti-aircraft system on a bridge used by tens of thousands of people every day.
“As long as online control of Shahed drones exists, not only bridges but also air defense systems will be at risk,” he said.
The presidential adviser added that Ukrainian specialists are carefully examining the wreckage of Russian drones.
According to him, no other unknown communication systems capable of providing similar drone control have been found so far.
