On September 8, Russian forces attacked an electric passenger train with drones in the Zaporizhzhia region. A Ukrainian Railways employee was killed in the attack, while the passengers managed to evacuate.

This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and “Ukrainian Railways”.

The passengers managed to leave the train before the strike, accompanied by Ukrainian Railways employees. After the first hit, one carriage of the electric train caught fire. About half an hour later, Russian forces struck the rolling stock again, causing another carriage to catch fire.

Rescuers extinguished the fires. Because of the constant threat of repeated strikes, they had to suspend firefighting operations and take shelter.

“We have confirmation that our colleague was killed in the enemy attack on the passenger train — a conductor on the Dnipro — Zaporizhzhia regional train. She returned to the train after the evacuation had already been announced and a warning of heightened danger had been issued. The enemy strike took her life,” Ukrainian Railways said.

Earlier on September 8, Russian forces carried out two targeted “Shahed” strikes on the Kyiv — Sumy train as it approached Sumy. The train was stopped in advance, and the passengers, train crew and locomotive crew were evacuated before the strikes.
