Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces launched a ballistic strike on Kyiv at the very moment he was discussing Lindsey Graham’s bill and the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia with U.S. lawmakers.

The main target of the overnight attack was civilian infrastructure in the capital — residential buildings, a maternity hospital, energy facilities and logistics. Two people were killed in the strike, and there were also injuries.
“Today, the Russians launched a ballistic strike on Kyiv just as we were discussing Lindsey Graham’s bill and the need to strengthen sanctions at a meeting with members of Congress. Russia will not end this war without pressure,” the president said.
Emergency services are working at the strike sites, while people remain trapped in one of the buildings. An air threat is still ongoing in some regions.
Zelenskyy discussed protection against such attacks with Brian Fitzpatrick, Mike Quigley, Marcy Kaptur, Jared Golden, Joe Wilson and Gregory Meeks.
Every such attack happens because the pressure on the aggressor has still not become total and Russia believes it can continue relying on ballistic terror. The United States now has an opportunity to respond strongly, the president stressed.
Zelenskyy called on the United States to strengthen its response, including by providing Ukraine with ballistic missile interceptors and implementing sanctions against Russia and those helping it earn money. He also thanked representatives of both parties for their readiness to help Ukraine.
