Presidential Elections Underway in Romania

The first round of Romania’s presidential election has commenced, with 13 candidates vying for the position. However, analysts suggest it is unlikely that any candidate will secure a majority in this round.

Leading the race is the current Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, with his main challenger being George Simion, the leader of the far-right Union for Romanian Unity.

Voting is scheduled to last for 14 hours, from 07:00 to 21:00. Preliminary exit poll results will be released once the polls close.

Nearly 18,970 polling stations have been set up across the country. In the first hour alone, over 230,000 citizens had already cast their votes, according to HotNews.ro.
