Poland’s General Staff has announced that it is holding talks with Ukraine on the possible transfer of MIG-29 fighter jets. No final decision has been made yet, but Warsaw views the potential transfer as part of broader allied support.

In a statement published on X, Poland’s General Staff said it is engaged in ongoing negotiations with Ukraine on the transfer of MIG-29 aircraft. The statement notes that these jets are reaching the end of their operational lifespan and have no prospects for further modernisation within the Polish Armed Forces. At the same time, the General Staff stressed that a final decision on the transfer has not yet been taken.

According to the Polish General Staff, the donation of aircraft would form part of allied support for Ukraine and contribute to strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. The roles previously fulfilled by the MIG-29s would be taken over by F-16 and FA-50 aircraft.

Negotiations with Ukraine also involve discussions on providing Poland with selected drone and missile technologies. The goal is not only equipment compensation but also the joint acquisition and development of new defence and industrial capabilities.
