U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has summoned hundreds of generals and admirals to an emergency meeting in Virginia next week without stating the reasons. According to The Washington Post, this has caused concern and surprise within the military leadership, as no one recalls a case where so many high-ranking officers were gathered at once.
All commanders holding the rank of brigadier general and above are required to attend the meeting at Quantico, including those serving in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The gathering comes amid sweeping changes initiated by Hegseth: a 20 percent reduction in the number of generals, the dismissal of several senior officials without explanation, and the decision to rename the Pentagon to the “Department of War.” Media also noted that President Donald Trump’s administration earlier this year dismissed or forced out several top defense officials, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Brown and Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Linda Fagan.
A Pentagon spokesperson confirmed only the fact of the meeting but did not disclose the agenda.
