Norway has allocated an additional $150 million in energy assistance to Ukraine for the purchase of gas during the winter season. This was announced by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre during his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Oslo, according to a statement from the Office of the President of Ukraine.
“Energy is very important. Thank you for another package of energy support — it is extremely significant,” said the Head of State.
This is already the third energy aid package from Norway this year, bringing the country’s total contribution to about $400 million.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed the aftermath of another Russian missile attack, which targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and residential buildings. Prime Minister Støre expressed his condolences to Ukrainians and praised the courage of the Ukrainian people in resisting aggression.
The two leaders also discussed Ukraine’s needs for air defense systems and missiles, further steps to strengthen the country’s defenses during the winter, and the development of joint production of drones and missiles under the PURL initiative. Zelenskyy thanked Norway for its participation, noting that last week the country had allocated an additional $200 million for defense needs, while earlier — together with Sweden and Denmark — it co-funded a second weapons package worth $500 million.
President Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Støre also coordinated their positions ahead of several important meetings in Europe this week.
“We are deeply grateful for the strong support from the people of Norway. Energy, air defense systems, and missiles — all of this saves lives. Thank you for helping us protect our families,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
