Today, September 5, the first section of the European gauge railway connecting Uzhgorod with Bratislava, Košice, Budapest, and Vienna was opened in Uzhgorod. The next stage will be the construction of a track to Lviv and the development of connections in other directions.
This was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The President visited the Uzhgorod railway station, where the opening of the Uzhgorod-Chop Eurotrack section took place. He congratulated the railway workers and thanked them for the result.
The new track is part of the European network. Uzhgorod became the first regional center connected to Bratislava, Košice, Budapest, and Vienna.
“This is just one of our first steps in integrating the Ukrainian railway into the European Union networks. We thank everyone who worked for this result, for this project. This is a joint project with the European Union. And there are thousands of similar projects ahead. Ukraine will be part of the European Union. Definitely,” Zelenskyy wrote.
According to the president, the construction of a European gauge railway to Lviv is ahead, and the development of railway connections in other directions is also continuing.
