On February 25, a monument to Russian Emperor Peter the Great was dismantled in Poltava on the basis of a decision by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.
This was reported by the acting mayor of Poltava, Kateryna Yamshchykova, on her Facebook page.
“According to the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the monument to Peter the Great was removed from the public space of our city. This step is an important part of the state policy of decolonization,” Yamshchikova wrote.
She also clarified that the dismantling of the monument was carried out in accordance with the current legislation and after all the necessary procedures were completed.
The monument in question is located near the Poltava Battlefield Museum. Poltava also plans to dismantle a monument at the resting place of Peter the Great.
