On January 15, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on port infrastructure in Odesa region. This was reported by the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Oleh Kiper.

According to him, a ballistic missile hit an area near a container berth in Odesa district, causing a fire. A civilian cargo vessel flying the flag of Malta was also damaged. One crew member was injured and is receiving medical assistance, while the consequences of the attack are being clarified.

Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba said the strike targeted port infrastructure in Chornomorsk. A ballistic missile hit a berth at the Chornomorsk port where a civilian vessel under the Maltese flag was located and preparing to transport container cargo.

As a result of the strike, three containers were damaged and an oil spill occurred. Boom barriers are being installed to contain the spill. Kuleba said all relevant services are working at the site, and Ukraine continues to ensure port operations and fulfill its international obligations despite ongoing attacks.

The Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that one civilian — a 38-year-old man — was injured in the missile attack. A pre-trial investigation has been launched under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding war crimes.
