Russia launched a large-scale overnight attack on several Ukrainian regions on October 7 using ballistic missiles and drones. Strikes were recorded in several districts of Kyiv, where two people were killed. Explosions were also reported in Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia and the Poltava region.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia used several types of aerial weapons overnight and in the morning, including ballistic and cruise missiles, conventional and jet-powered drones, as well as guided aerial bombs. Ballistic targets were tracked toward Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, the Poltava region and other areas, while activity later shifted mainly to cruise missiles moving through the Kharkiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, Kirovohrad and other regions.
After 03:00, the Air Force reported a high-speed target heading toward Kyiv, after which explosions were heard in the capital. Explosions were later reported in Dnipro, where a ballistic missile threat had also been announced.
At around 3:00 a.m., the Air Force detected the takeoff of six Tu-95 strategic bombers from the Olenegorsk airfield.
In Kyiv’s Obolonskyi district, debris struck an area of non-residential development, while warehouse facilities were hit in the Podilskyi district. Debris caught fire in an open area in the Darnytskyi district, where two people were reported killed. A strike was also recorded on non-residential premises in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
In Dnipro, Russian forces struck an industrial facility during the attack. Information about casualties is being clarified.
In Zaporizhzhia, Russian forces attacked a transport infrastructure facility. Temporary traffic restrictions may be introduced on some road sections because of the damage.
After 6:20 a.m., the Poltava region came under a large-scale missile and drone attack. Explosions were heard in Kremenchuk.
