Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that there is a lot of manipulation and outright misinformation surrounding the issue of the capital’s preparation for winter. According to him, a day before the devastating massive attack on Kyiv, he held a meeting with the prime minister of Ukraine, during which he outlined all the risks and threats to the city’s critical infrastructure.
Klitschko said that at the meeting he reported on how Kyiv was preparing for winter and proposed the creation of a joint штаб to respond to a possible emergency situation and deal with its consequences. He added that he attended the meeting together with Petro Pantelieiev.
According to the mayor, on January 9 a large-scale attack on the capital followed, but there was no coordination of joint actions with the government at that time. Only the day before was the creation of a nationwide headquarters announced, and Kyiv, as Klitschko noted, was mentioned through groundless accusations.
The mayor stressed that he considers such a situation unacceptable when it concerns people’s safety, health and lives, and added that the city authorities continue to work and do everything possible. Klitschko also said that information on how Kyiv was preparing for winter had been publicly presented in summer, autumn and winter and is available in open sources.
