Ukrainian defence forces continue to hold positions in most of Hulyaypole, but further defence of the city is becoming extremely difficult due to the terrain. This was reported by the DeepState monitoring group on Telegram.
According to analysts, Huliaipole is currently completely in the grey zone, as both Ukrainian units and enemy troops are present throughout the city. In some cases, Defence Forces fighters may be in one basement, while Russian troops are in the neighbouring one. Active operations in open terrain are mainly carried out by assault groups, which are significantly more numerous on the enemy’s side, allowing them to demonstrate their presence in the city centre.
The main problem for Ukrainian units remains the terrain. Huliaipole is located in a lowland area, which makes it difficult to bring personnel into the city. DeepState notes that the situation is similar for Russian forces, but their significantly larger number of personnel reduces the impact of this factor.
Analysts emphasise that despite the heavy fighting for the city and its surroundings, the issue of building defensive lines beyond Huliaipole remains critical. DeepState warns against a repeat of the situation that followed the loss of Avdiivka, when insufficiently prepared defence lines allowed the enemy to advance further.
