As of 7 p.m. on April 28, gas supply to the population in Cherkasy has been restored. Work to eliminate the damage caused by Russian UAVs to the region’s gas infrastructure will continue tomorrow.

This was announced by the mayor of Cherkasy, Anatoliy Bondarenko, according to Suspilne Cherkasy.

Six people were injured as a result of the Russian attack on Cherkasy region on April 28. Damage to gas infrastructure was reported, leaving about 117,000 consumers without gas. The alarm in the region lasted for several hours.

“At 12:30 p.m., the last Shahed was shot down. In total, about 25 of them were flying. We have hits. We heard explosions both as a result of the fall of damaged or destroyed Shaheds and as a result of hits on infrastructure facilities. In particular, there is a hit on one of the critical infrastructure facilities – the gas transportation network,” said Ihor Taburets, head of the Cherkasy Regional State Administration.

He also noted that the consequences of the strike on the infrastructure facility were quite significant.

“All relevant services, including the emergency gas service, responded immediately, as this is a gas transmission network. Rescuers and medics were also on the scene. Low-pressure networks, i.e., those supplying gas to the population, were shut down in order to maintain the supply of gas in high-pressure networks. Currently, about 117,000 consumers and about 430 legal entities that operate on gas are disconnected from the gas supply, including such large facilities as Azot, TPP, Cherkasyhlib, and Cherkasyteplokomunenergo,” Taburets said.

According to Cherkasy Mayor Anatoliy Bondarenko, as of 7:00 p.m., gas supply to the population has been restored.

“There is gas in the system. I ask all consumers to check its availability in their homes. If there is gas, you can use it. If there is no gas, please remain calm. Tomorrow, the gradual reconnection of subscribers will begin,” the statement said.

According to Bondarenko, 50 emergency crews from other regions of Ukraine will arrive in Cherkasy to speed up the work and help restore gas supply to all consumers as quickly as possible.
