On October 12, the French Navy detained the tanker DF Peak more than 450 nautical miles south of Réunion. The vessel is suspected of sailing under a false flag and being involved in the illegal transport of fuel.

French President Emmanuel Macron said this in a post on X.

The operation was carried out in accordance with international maritime law.

“France is determined to fight the shadow fleet around the world,” Macron said.

He said the detention of DF Peak demonstrated France’s determination to enforce the law and combat illegal trafficking wherever it occurs.
