Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov is planning a trip to the United States. The visit may focus on attracting resources for new defense technology projects.
Fedorov’s press service confirmed the plans in a comment to Suspilne.
“The main purpose of the potential trip is to attract resources for new defense tech projects”, the former minister’s team said.
His representatives also stressed that the visit would not include meetings with American politicians or government officials.
The Kyiv Independent previously reported that Fedorov could travel to the United States next week. Meanwhile, the British newspaper The Guardian suggested that the trip might be aimed at securing Washington’s support for holding elections in Ukraine.
A day earlier, Fedorov spoke about the “need to restore the democratic process” by holding elections.
Fedorov left his position as defense minister in July following a government reshuffle. The decision not to nominate him for reappointment prompted peaceful demonstrations in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
On August 19, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Yevhenii Khmara as Ukraine’s new defense minister. His nomination was supported by 312 members of parliament.
