        Explosion at Hungary’s Mol petrochemical plant kills one, injures several

        On May 22, an explosion occurred at the Mol Petrolkémia plant in the city of Tiszaújváros, Hungary, during the restart of a production unit. As a result of the incident, one person was killed and several others were seriously injured.

        This was reported by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar, Telex writes.

        The explosion on the territory of the enterprise occurred today at about 9 a.m. After that, a large-scale fire broke out at the plant. According to local media, the blast wave damaged windows in some buildings near the enterprise.

        Mol said that the explosion occurred during the restart of the Olefin 1 unit. The mayor of Tiszaújváros, György Fülöp, confirmed the death of one person. The exact number of injured is currently being clarified. Fire units, a mobile laboratory, and a medical helicopter were sent to the scene.

        According to rescuers, the fire is being extinguished simultaneously from several directions using water cannons and foam. Cooling of the plant’s system is also being carried out.
