At the “Elastik” gunpowder plant in Ryazan Region, where an explosion occurred on August 15, in addition to producing gunpowder, the facility also assembled shells with explosives.

According to sources, the fire at the plant broke out on August 15 at 10:41 local time.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but due to the rapid spread of flames, the fire engulfed three more buildings, including a warehouse storing shells filled with TNT and a building of the second production workshop.
Astra notes that 152-mm artillery shells were stored in the warehouse, and a production workshop for manufacturing them was located nearby.
As a result of the powerful explosion on the plant’s territory, 11 people were killed and another 130 were injured.
It should be noted that this is not the first incident at the plant. In October 2021, an explosion occurred in a workshop of the private explosives manufacturer “Razryad,” killing 17 people at that time.
