The European Union has agreed on the terms for releasing €6.6 billion to Ukraine from the European Peace Facility. The funds will be used for military assistance, joint procurement of equipment and reimbursement of expenses to EU member states.
This was announced by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas on X.
According to her, €900 million will be allocated to the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine, while another €1 billion will fund new joint procurement of military equipment.
A further €4.7 billion will be used to reimburse EU member states. Some countries have already said they will channel their share to support Ukraine.
“This is good news for Ukraine and bad news for Russia,” Kallas said.
She stressed that Moscow’s hybrid attacks are intended to intimidate Europe into scaling back its support for Ukraine, but the EU is doing the opposite.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha welcomed the decision by EU member states.
“Today’s long-awaited agreement means more military assistance, weapons and training for Ukraine, while at the same time strengthening Europe’s security,” Sybiha said.
The Ukrainian foreign minister thanked Kaja Kallas and EU member states for stepping up support for Ukraine and noted that the decision was a response to Moscow’s escalation.
The funds will be released through the European Peace Facility, which the EU uses to finance security and defence measures.
