On May 14, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe approved a decision to establish a Special Tribunal for Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine. The tribunal will allow Vladimir Putin and other high-ranking officials to be held accountable for starting the war.

The establishment of the Special Tribunal for Russia was announced by the head of the Verkhovna Rada’s permanent delegation to the PACE, Maria Mezentseva.

The decision was adopted today in Luxembourg during a meeting of the Committee of Ministers.

“Many thanks to my colleagues from the Office of the President and the Cabinet of Ministers for their work and to our delegation to PACE, which fought for this decision from the very beginning,” Mezentseva wrote.

As a reminder, on May 9, a meeting of foreign ministers of countries supporting the creation of a special tribunal on Russia’s crime of aggression against Ukraine was held in Lviv. As a result, the participants reached a political agreement on the launch of such a mechanism.

The main task of the tribunal is to bring Russian dictator Putin and other high-ranking officials to justice for starting the war against Ukraine.
