Today, January 16, the High Anti-Corruption Court is to decide on a preventive measure for Yulia Tymoshenko, a member of parliament suspected of corruption. The leader of the Batkivshchyna party is involved in a case of bribery of MPs.

Tymoshenko is suspected of a crime under Part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — offering, promising, or providing unlawful benefits to an official in a particularly responsible position, or committed by an organized group of persons or a member thereof. The penalty for this crime is 5 to 10 years in prison with or without confiscation of property.
Before the start of the hearing, the head of the Batkivshchyna faction stated that she expected a “fair trial” and rejected all charges. The MP called the Tymoshenko tapes published by NABU fake and said that she “never said such things.” She says she wants to obtain the original recordings to send them for independent examination.
“I think that against the backdrop of billion-dollar corruption taking place in the country, where everyone sees and knows what is going on, in 10 years NABU has found one criminal and brought him here. I still hope that the court will be fair,” Tymoshenko said.
