President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that all EU countries, except Hungary, are ready to support the opening of three negotiation clusters in Ukraine’s EU accession process. He announced this during a conversation with journalists.
According to the head of state, Ukraine has to make sure it’s technically ready to open these clusters by 1 July. The president said that, according to a report by Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, the technical preparations are going as planned, but there’s still an issue with Hungary.
‘Almost everyone supports us, except for one country. Our team, including Stefanishyna, has already held meetings in Budapest. But so far, there are no concrete results,’ Zelensky said.
He also referred to a poll conducted by the Hungarian opposition, according to which 70% of Hungarian citizens support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
‘Ukraine should not be dragged into internal political struggles. Prime Minister Orbán is blocking us in the EU for political reasons, but such tactics will not work. The people of Hungary overwhelmingly support Ukraine, and you cannot play on hatred forever. This is a dangerous path,’ the president stressed.
