A 35-year-old agent of the Belarusian KGB was detained in Kyiv. She was operating under the cover of journalistic activity and attempting to infiltrate one of the Ukrainian military intelligence units. The exposure was the result of a lengthy joint special operation by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate’s internal security service documented the activities of the Belarusian spy for several months and passed her disinformation under the guise of secret data.

According to the investigation, the agent had been working for the Belarusian KGB since 2015. In 2020, she was sent to Ukraine for intelligence work. Her cover was journalism — after working for Medvedchuk’s sanctioned channel “112,” the spy got a job at one of Ukraine’s leading media outlets.

“Then, on the orders of her handler, under the pretext of needing a medical examination, the woman left for additional training in one of the EU countries. She was tasked by the KGB with gathering information about Belarusians and Russians who are fighting against the aggressor state on the side of Ukraine,” the statement said.

The Belarusian spy was also supposed to establish contacts with employees of the Chinese Embassy in Kyiv in order to gather information about the activities of Chinese diplomats in Ukraine.

After gathering a large amount of evidence, the agent was detained in Kyiv, and her smartphone and voice recorder, which she used to collect classified information, were seized. The spy is currently in custody. She faces 15 years in prison and confiscation of property.
