Current Defense Minister Rustem Umerov is being considered for the post of Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, which will entail a major reshuffle in the Ukrainian government.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a press conference in Rome, Yevropeiska Pravda reports.

“If I decide, and it will be in the near future, that Defense Minister Rustem Umerov will be our key ambassador, this will certainly affect a major reshuffle in the government of Ukraine. It is clear why – because today all decisions, our entire budget is, unfortunately, about the war,” the president said.

According to Zelenskyy, he contacted Ukraine’s Ambassador to Washington, Oksana Markarova, and thanked her for her service. The president added that he would like her to continue her work in Ukraine.

“Much depends on her. I am open, I would like her to work in Ukraine. If she decides otherwise, this path is her choice,” the president said.

As a reminder, in June, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said that Zelenskyy had already made certain personnel decisions to replace the heads of some foreign institutions and that they were expected in July.

Earlier, the media wrote that during Zelenskyy’s telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on July 4, they discussed the issue of replacing Markarova.
