Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about the energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump. Zelenskyy confirmed Ukraine’s readiness to support the ceasefire and emphasized that it is now important to secure Russia’s agreement and receive details of the arrangement from Washington.

The Ukrainian president made the announcement in a statement.

“I have just spoken with Mark Carney, Alex Stubb, and Mark Rutte. We discussed the energy ceasefire announced by President Trump. Ukraine supports the ceasefire, and it is important that Russia supports it as well,” Zelenskyy said.

The president stressed that Kyiv is awaiting clarification from the United States regarding the terms of the announced ceasefire.

“We are waiting for details from the American side. On our part, Ukraine has always given its FULL support to steps toward de-escalation, the protection of lives, and the necessary decisions to end the war and ensure lasting peace,” he noted.

Earlier on October 11, Donald Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social that Ukraine and Russia had supposedly agreed to an immediate energy ceasefire.

However, Zelenskyy told Axios that the US president’s announcement had come as a surprise to him.

“This was news to me. But if the Russians agree to an energy ceasefire, Ukraine will agree as well,” he said.

The Ukrainian president also asked Washington to clarify exactly when the halt to strikes would begin.

“If President Trump negotiated this with Putin, please tell us when the ceasefire begins. We are ready, and we will agree to it,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
