Chinese leader Xi Jinping, during his state visit to the United States, called for continued dialogue between Washington and Beijing, expanded cooperation in the fields of economy and technology, and the prevention of confrontation between the two countries.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and the United States have a historic responsibility to promote human development and progress, and that cooperation between the two countries can help address global challenges.
“I am glad to visit this beautiful country”
Xi Jinping said he was pleased to make a state visit to the United States and conveyed greetings to the American people on behalf of more than 1.4 billion Chinese citizens.
He also congratulated the United States on the 250th anniversary of its independence.
“Both China and the United States are great countries, and both the Chinese and American peoples are great peoples,” the Chinese leader said.
According to Xi, he came to the United States at Donald Trump’s invitation to continue friendship, expand cooperation and promote the well-being of the peoples of both countries.
US-China relations: dialogue instead of confrontation
Xi Jinping said China and the United States should strengthen communication despite differences in political systems and national circumstances.
According to him, through “candid, in-depth and continued dialogue”, the two countries can better understand each other, seek common ground while managing differences, and build mutual trust.
He said he respects Donald Trump and that the two leaders have developed personal rapport and working relations.
Xi also called on government agencies of both countries — including those responsible for foreign affairs, economic issues, finance, law enforcement and people-to-people exchanges — to strengthen contacts and cooperation.
Cooperation as a way to address global challenges
The Chinese leader said that the interests of China and the United States are “deeply intertwined” and that there is significant room for cooperation.
“China-US cooperation may not solve every problem in the world, but without our cooperation, it would be hard to solve many of the world’s problems,” Xi said.
He called on both countries to cooperate sincerely and use opportunities for joint development.
Artificial intelligence must remain under human control
Xi Jinping separately addressed the development of artificial intelligence.
He said China and the United States are leading nations in the field of AI and have both the capabilities and responsibility to ensure its safe development.
According to the Chinese leader, it is necessary to ensure that artificial intelligence remains under human control and serves the well-being of society.
Competition without confrontation
Xi Jinping said China and the United States can both benefit from cooperation, while confrontation would harm both countries.
He noted that competition between the two powers cannot be avoided, but it should be “healthy” and limited.
“It should be a race of catching up with one another, not a wrestle in which either wins or loses,” Xi said.
He called on both countries to uphold the principle of avoiding conflict and confrontation.
Military contacts and crisis prevention
Xi Jinping said the militaries of China and the United States should maintain regular dialogue.
According to him, the two countries need to improve communication mechanisms to prevent crises.
The Chinese leader also said that the so-called “Thucydides Trap” — the idea that conflict between a rising power and an established power is inevitable — can be overcome.
Shared history and new people-to-people exchanges
Xi Jinping recalled cooperation between China and the United States during World War II.
He said Chinese and American peoples fought together against fascist aggression and that this part of history has not been forgotten.
The Chinese leader also announced an invitation for 100,000 young Americans to visit China for study and exchanges over the next five years.
Pandas as a symbol of friendship
Xi Jinping also highlighted the role of giant pandas in China-US relations.
He said two pandas — Ping Ping and Fuchuan — would arrive in the coming days at their new home at Zoo Atlanta and meet with the American public.
“China’s rejuvenation and making America great can go hand in hand”
At the end of his remarks, Xi Jinping said that the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and America’s pursuit of greatness can develop in parallel.
He called on both countries to meet the expectations of their peoples, continue advancing friendship and work together to build a better world.
The Chinese leader also said Beijing is ready to strengthen cooperation with the United States in counter-narcotics efforts and law enforcement.
