U.S. presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on September 5 as part of a new diplomatic mission aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. They were met at Vnukovo-2 Airport by Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
This was reported by Russian media.
“Welcome to Moscow, peacemakers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner,” Dmitriev wrote on X, a social network officially blocked and banned in Russia.
After their arrival, a motorcade carrying Witkoff, Kushner and Dmitriev left Vnukovo-2 Airport and headed toward Moscow. The program of the visit has not been announced.
After talks in Russia, Witkoff and Kushner are expected to travel to Kyiv.
As Bloomberg previously reported, citing its own sources, expectations in the Kremlin for the new round of talks are “extremely low”: previous visits by the U.S. representatives to Moscow produced no results, and the Russian side sees no reason to expect proposals it would consider acceptable.
Axios also reported that U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that Witkoff and Kushner are bringing Russia “a proposal to end the war,” but did not disclose its details.
