The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has approved an €85 million loan for Ukrainian energy company DTEK. The funds will be used to expand electricity storage systems.
Reuters reported this.
This is the largest DFC loan for Ukraine’s energy sector since the start of Russia’s invasion in 2022.
DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko said the financing would allow the company to free up more funds to build new energy storage systems and other projects.
“For me, the financial part is very important, but much more important is the signal that DFC is ready to support Ukraine and DTEK,” Timchenko said.
According to him, DFC assessed the risks and demonstrated its readiness to work with them, which is also a signal to private investors.
DFC CEO Ben Black said U.S. President Donald Trump had enabled the corporation to proceed with the investment.
