The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland has issued a statement addressing the blockade of the Ukrainian-Polish border at the Shehyni-Medyka crossing point by Polish farmers.
“Today, we honour the memory of millions of innocent victims of the Holodomor, one of the most tragic events in human history. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder that restricting access to food and disregarding the principles of solidarity can lead to catastrophic consequences.
Unfortunately, Ukraine, which once endured this man-made famine and is now suffering from Russian aggression, is also forced to fight to preserve its solidarity routes with Western partners,” reads the statement posted on the Embassy’s official Facebook page.
Ukrainian diplomats pointed out the bitter irony of blocking the border with demands unrelated to Ukraine on such a solemn day, calling it a “particularly painful paradox.”
“Such actions not only damage the economic interests of both nations but also serve the interests of those seeking to sow discord between Ukrainians and Poles,” the Embassy warned.
The diplomats urged the Polish side, well-acquainted with the weight of historical traumas, to demonstrate solidarity and work together on solutions that protect the interests of both nations without diminishing the memory of past tragedies.
