On 6 January, the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics began in Milan. The main events are taking place at the San Siro Stadium, with part of the programme taking place at several other locations.

Video from the ceremony is being broadcast by Suspilne Sport.

Vladyslav Heraskevych and Yelyzaveta Sydorko will be the flag bearers for the Ukrainian team.

Some elements of the ceremony are taking place in Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites, Livigno in the Italian Alps, and Predazzo in Trentino. Two Olympic fires will be lit simultaneously — one in Milan on the Arco della Pace, the other in Piazza Dibona in Cortina.

The ceremony will last about three hours and will honour Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, who died in September at the age of 91. He traditionally created the Olympic uniform for the Italian national team, and his legacy as one of the founders of Italian prêt-à-porter is closely linked to Milan.
