Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held a telephone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. They discussed additional air defence capabilities, sanctions targeting Russian missile production and the use of frozen Russian assets.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported the outcome of the talks.
Sybiha briefed Kallas on the consequences of Russia’s large-scale missile and drone attack overnight and the current situation on the battlefield.
According to the minister, they focused on practical steps to strengthen Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia. These included additional air and ballistic missile defence capabilities.
“We focused on concrete steps to strengthen Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia: additional air defence capabilities, particularly ballistic missile defence, stronger sanctions against Russia’s production of ballistic missiles and the relevant supply chains, as well as further work toward the full use of frozen Russian assets,” Sybiha said.
Black Sea security and the protection of Ukraine’s maritime grain corridor were discussed separately. The foreign minister stressed that Russian attacks on ports and civilian vessels threaten Ukraine’s economy, freedom of navigation and global food security.
Sybiha and Kallas also discussed Ukraine’s progress toward European Union membership and the next steps in the accession process.
“We have a clear understanding of the priorities before us and the decisions required to continue moving forward,” the minister concluded.
