SBU detains Russian intelligence agent who manufactured explosive devices for terrorist attacks in Zaporizzhia

The SBU and the National Police exposed an agent of the Russian military intelligence (GRU) in Zaporizzhia. He was manufacturing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for terrorist attacks in the frontline region.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the recruited agent was a drug addict from Zaporizhzhia, who was bribed by Russians with the promise of ‘easy money’.

At first, he performed a ‘test task’ – distributing anti-Ukrainian leaflets in the city, and later received instructions on how to make explosives and transport them to caches.

‘In addition, following the instructions of his supervisor, the man used his acquaintances in the dark and checked their suitability for recruitment,’ law enforcement officers said.

The man was detained at his place of residence. During the searches, they seized the phones he used to contact his handler, as well as components for making explosive devices.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The court remanded him in custody without the right to be released on bail.
