Russian forces launched large-scale drone attacks on Konotop and Sumy on the evening of August 20 and overnight into August 21. At least two people were injured, while residential buildings and civilian infrastructure sustained damage.

Sumy Oblast Governor Oleh Hryhorov and Sumy City Military Administration chief Serhii Kryvosheienko reported the consequences of the strikes.

Russian forces attacked a residential area of Konotop in the evening. Three targeted strikes were recorded, reportedly involving high-speed jet-powered drones.

Homes were damaged, but no deaths or physical injuries were reported. One woman suffered an acute stress reaction.

Sumy came under a large-scale attack overnight. Drone strikes were recorded at at least four locations in the city’s Kovpakivskyi district.

Residential areas and municipal civilian infrastructure were hit. A two-storey residential building was located at the centre of one of the strikes, causing a fire and extensive damage.

Preliminary reports indicate that two people were injured when a drone struck the building. They are receiving medical assistance.

Fires broke out at several locations. The threat of follow-up strikes temporarily prevented rescuers from fully beginning the emergency response.

Emergency services continue to inspect the affected areas and deal with the aftermath. The full extent of the damage and the number of casualties are being clarified.
