Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a ceasefire is possible, but ensuring compliance with it remains very difficult. According to him, Russia does not want to end the war, while Vladimir Putin may resort to a new escalation if he fails to achieve victory.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said this in an interview with BFMTV.
“We need to put an end to this war. And there is one side, Russia, that does not want this. They only demonstrate it in words. But a ceasefire is not just words, it is a very concrete step,” the president said.
Zelenskyy called the Russian dictator a “liar” when it comes to a ceasefire because Putin needs a victory. The Ukrainian president also expressed concern about a possible escalation of the war by Russia. According to him, if Putin does not achieve victory, “he will become very dangerous, and not only for Ukraine”.
“He will try to occupy another place, seize other people and kill again, kill people,” Zelenskyy said.
The president added that Putin could also “draw more countries into the war”.
Zelenskyy stressed that Russia also needs a ceasefire to give peace, its country and the families who have lost servicemen, sons and daughters a chance.
“It is up to him to decide whether to think about all these people or not, not me,” the Ukrainian president added.
