Hourly power outages may start in Ukraine next week due to a drop in temperature.
This was reported by a member of the supervisory board of Centrenergo, Volodymyr Velichko, noting that with the cold weather the power engineers will have to balance the energy system more actively, using both their own resources and, possibly, emergency aid from neighboring countries, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
According to Velichko, the latest drop in average daily temperature has already led to an increase in electricity consumption.
In addition to domestic challenges, the situation may become more complicated due to increased electricity consumption in Europe. This, in turn, could lead to higher electricity prices on European markets, complicating opportunities for Ukraine to import commercially, especially given the current restrictions – price caps – on Ukraine’s spot market.
