Polish farmers start blocking Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint

Today, at around 10.00 a.m., Polish protesters began blocking the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint, the State Border Guard Service reports.

‘According to preliminary information, the action will last 48 hours with a possible extension,’ the statement said.

At the moment, there is no accumulation of trucks in front of the checkpoint to leave Ukraine. There are about 150 trucks waiting to enter Ukraine.

The SBGS reminded that vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes will not be allowed to enter Poland. One truck per hour will be allowed to leave Poland. Restrictions will not apply to cars and buses.

The organisers of the blockade say they started the protest for two reasons. The first is the failure to meet the requirement to keep the level of the agricultural tax in 2024 at the level of 2023. The second concerns ‘concerns over the EU’s signing of a free trade agreement with the South American Mercosur (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay).
