Parliament extends martial law and mobilisation: only one MP voted against

The Parliament has voted to extend martial law and mobilisation in Ukraine for another 90 days, until 6 August 2025.

The decision was supported by 357 MPs, with only one MP opposed – a representative of the European Solidarity faction, Oleksiy Honcharenko.

Among the main reasons for this decision, Honcharenko named the lack of legally defined terms of service and demobilisation mechanisms for military personnel, as well as the activities of territorial recruitment centres.

‘Now our military, who are defending their country from the occupiers, are the least protected by the same country. In fact, they are in slavery. Even in prison there is a deadline – here there is no deadline,’ the MP wrote.

He also criticised the methods of mobilisation, calling them ineffective and humiliating.
